Shoes

I packed 2 of my suitcases over the weekend....lo and behold, without trying, one of them came to 49 pounds and 8 ounces!!! I actually have 2 ounces of something I can put in there! :-) So the other 2 suitcases are left for clothes and shoes. And therein lies the problem.....

Mom got me some of those space bags--boy do I wish I would have invented those (I'd be moving to Italy permanently on that fortune). So, all of my clothes have the air sucked out of them and I can fit all sorts of things in the suitcase. But, what to do about the shoes?

Yes, just call me Imelda Marcos. I was pretty young when that whole 'scandal' rocked the world. I have to admit I was a bit confused as to what was such a big deal about have so many shoes...a bit over the top, yes, perhaps, but not enough to make the national news! But years later, here I sit with 2 closets full of shoe boxes and trying to narrow down the 'necessities'.

At first pass, I got down to 31 pair! I have managed to eliminate 4 more but now am truly struggling with leaving my babies behind! Suddenly, I feel a great kinship to Imelda and can feel her agony as she had to leave them.

Oh sure, you laugh but we all have something like that...everyone has their 'shoe dilemma'. And at the risk of waxing eloquent or prosing philosophical, I will leave you to contemplate your own issues. In the meantime, my goal is to eliminate 7 more pair and be at a healthy 20. Of course, I also need to return that over the door shoe hangar that only holds 10 pair!

...well, that confirms all these widely spread prejudices I would never dare to mention. Glad it comes from yourself, Susan!
Isn't it good to have a brother, who likes to ride the macho wave! :-)

UMMM, 20 shoes? When are you going to where 20 shoes? Be real! you are going walking everywhere, and not working. I can't even imagine those cute little sandels on the streets of Venice! So I think that 10 is the better number! (5 is even better)

This is what you should do, pack a box of the remaining 10 shoes and give it to your Mom. If you find you can't live without them have her ship them to you.

That is my practical advice of the day!

Oh brother...maybe you are thinking about this wrong. Isn't 20 pretty close to 31? So why not bring a different pair of shoes for each day of the month. For instance you could wear your first Tuesday of the month Sandal or your 4th Saturday dress up mule (I had to look that one up).

Italy is all about looking good. They may notice if you wear the same shoe twice in a month. You don't want to be voted off the island do you?

Think about it. If you are cast off the island you may have to live in some place like Parma or Bologna...or some other pasta-dish town like Putanesca or Alfredo.

Moral of the story...pack them in your carry on and start hitting the gym so you can move them!

Personally, I'd leave most of the shoes at home and buy more beautiful lovelies over there! You know you will anyway.

That reminds me ... don't you still have 800 stuffed animals in a storage locker in Milwaukee?

...I don't know whether you Americans out there know it: But Italy is famous for it's shoes all over Europe. Taking shoes to Italy is like pouring water into the ocean or spreading sand in the desert.

I am giving away most of my shoes when I leave Germany and will just buy new ones when I get to Phoenix. I won't be needing winter worthy shoes, just sandals. But I understand you having trouble departing with some of your favorites. Payless here I come...

I think you should consider buying new shoes in Italy
